Hearings planned on grant program

LaPORTE - The City of LaPorte has planned two Community Development Block Grant Program public hearings on the 2006 annual action plan. The first hearing is at 1:30 p.m. and the second is at 6 p.m. Monday, July 10, in the Council Chambers at LaPorte City Hall, 801 Michigan Ave.

LaPorte intends to apply for $511,891 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds for 2006 to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development by Aug. 15.

The purpose of the hearings is to allow the city to solicit comments from the public on the use of the funds.

Eligible CDBG activities include single-family home rehabilitation, home ownership programs, economic development, and public service activities.

Anyone who is unable to attend either public meeting can submit written comments through Aug. 10 to City of LaPorte, Attn: Mary Ann Richards, Department of Community Development and Planning, 801 Michigan Ave., LaPorte, IN 46360, or e-mail comments to cdbgprogram@cityoflaporte.com.
