Blue Heron Inn

LaPorte, IN - The sleepy little lakeside town of LaPorte can be a nice place for a quick getaway this season. Spend the night at the Blue Heron Inn and you won't have to look far for dining variety. There are two restaurants on site.

Pompeii's Pub is the summertime place when you can snag a primo table on the deck. "There aren't too many restaurants with the view that this has," says Owner John Diedrich. "Pompeii's Pub is casual, a few entrees, nice appetizers. It's great to sit out here in the summertime and have an artichoke dip or whatever with a cocktail." Dishes like the asparagus salad will cost you $7 and the crab cakes, only $6.

"Le Cabernet is very romantic, very elegant," says Diedrich. "We put an addition on in 2000 to the inn and that's when we built Le Cabernet. It's fine dining. It's French Mediterranean cuisine. Seafood beef, duet of duck is one of our signature entrees."

Le Cabernet's duck in whiskey peppercorn sauce is scrumptious and only $19.

Settle in for the night with a full stomach in one of 29 rooms at the Blue Heron Inn. They range in price from $80 to $200.

Don't think you can part with that beautiful lake view? Then don't, spend the night on the water.

"Stay in one of the boat houses and actually sit out on the deck and fish right off your deck," says Diedrich. "It's an adventure, it's fun."

Le Cabernet is open weekdays for breakfast from 6:30 until 10:00 AM and 6:30 until noon on the weekends. Dinner begins at 5:00 and lasts until 9:00 PM.
