Strong Leadership to Strengthen Indiana's Economy

TODAY'S ACTION:

Governor Mitch Daniels joined Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson and Rolls-Royce to announce 600 new jobs and an expansion of the facility.

  1. Rolls-Royce will invest $145 million into its facility.
  2. The company will create 600 manufacturing, engineering, and research and development jobs.
  3. Up to 150 of the estimated 600 new jobs will be created through the establishment of a center of excellence dedicated to the advancement of aerospace industry technology.

Today's announcement comes on the heels of two announcements last week in Southeast Indiana .

  1. American Commercial Lines Inc., the parent company of Jeffboat, will expand its' corporate headquarters and facilities, creating more than 1,100 new jobs.
  2. Midwest Tube Mills will form R&T Steel and Wire in Madison to manufacture dog kennels and security panels creating 120 new jobs.

These announcements are only the most recent in a list of positive new job opportunities for Hoosiers.

  1. Last week, Guitar Center , a leading U.S. retailer of instruments and pro-audio and recording equipment, announced plans to expand its Brownsburg distribution facility and create 190 new jobs.
  2. Earlier this month, Broin Companies announced plans to build a new large ethanol plant in Jay County creating 40 permanent jobs.
  3. In May, Cabela's announced plans to build a new retail mega-store and tourist attraction in Hammond creating 400 jobs.
  4. Last month, Federal Express announced a $200 million expansion creating 800 new jobs in Central Indiana . FedEx credited the passage of Daylight Saving Time as one reason for its decision.
  5. In April, Arbonne International announced plans to build a new distribution hub creating 300 new jobs.

Indiana is on an economic hot streak.

  1. 76,000 more Hoosiers are working since Governor Daniels took office.
  2. Indiana 's unemployment rate of 4.9% is its second lowest since October 2001 and the lowest of our neighboring states.
